It has been WAY too long since I've posted on SoyBoys Blog-- life has been keep us busy! Sawyer continues to amaze us each day. He is talking like crazy,using 2 words sentences, running, and starting to count. He is excited that summer has arrived and love going to the pool!

Adventures ot the Park

Here are my boys at the park on Sunday. Sawyer loves being outside and this is the perfect time of year to take Soy-boy to the park. We live right by Scottish Rite Hospital, which has an incredible playground. Sawyer is still a little young, requiring lots of chasing on the playground- but he loved it! See any similarities between these two??

Sawyer just turned 15 months old....so I know that I am a little late here, but here are some of the pics from our 1st Birthday Celebration in August! Here is Sawyer with both of his Grandmothers: Two-Mommy and ViVi. Sawyer spent the night with ViVi last night and we got a text proclaiming that Soy-Boy said ViVi!! I'm afraid Two-Mommy is going to have to wait a little longer :)

Birthday Soy!

The picture says it all...Sawyer had his first cake today and went for it! Needless to say, its 9 pm and he JUST went to bed....that was a lot of sugar for such a little guy! More pics to come.....the real party is on Saturday!

On a side note, Sawyer has done great in his first few days of his new class. I am pretty amazed that he is laying on a little cot for nap time each day! Tomorrow is the one year checkup....its not very nice to have shots to look forward to on the post-b-day-day :( Hopefully he will be a brave little boy!

As Sawyer's first birthday quickly approaches we can see that he is about to start walking any second! In fact, he has now taken about 2 steps in a row. We are having a party next week with Sawyer's family....I'm sure he can't wait to try out his first piece of birthday cake!!

Next week Sawyer will move from the infant class, up to the big boy class! This week he is spending a few hours each day in his new class, and he has been worn out at the end of the day. The new class has more of a schedule, which will be an adjustment for Sawyer. Here is a pic of our big boy before school, sporting his new white tennis shoes!

Easter Love

Sawyer had a wonderful first Easter! We celebrated with both sets of Grandparents along with other family members. Sawyer wore his new easter outfit and his adorable new shoes.

Lucky little SoyBoy received many wonderful easter baskets and bunnies from his his loving family members.

Time is flying in Jones house! Life is busy and baby continues grow each day. Sawyer just turned 8 months old and we are ready for him to crawl any day now. Sawyer has had lots of firsts in the last month! The first two teeth are in and he is eating just about anything he can get his little hands on!

Here is SoyBoys first time to sit in a restaraunt high chair (at Gloria's) and he loves being part of the table.

He also has his first best friend! His teachers tell us that he has become great friends with a little boy in his class.

A Special Day

Sawyer's baptism was Sunday and it really was a special day for our family. Here is Sawyer getting ready in the morning. He was giddy from the moment that he woke up, knowing that something big was about to happen!
He wore this beautiful cotton gown with a tiny blue cross embroidered accross the top. He looked like a little angel!

Sawyer was baptised by his Granddad and it was a touching moment for us all.

It was so wonderful to be surrounded by our loving families and friends for this beautiful occasion that we will always remember.

He is eating sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, and even avocado....and so far we are making our own baby food! Sawyer is rolling over and babbling like crazy, and he is so close to sitting up alone! Sawyer is quickly approaching 6 months and we decided to experiment with a little bit of rice cereal to get him used to eating. Tonight was our first attempt, and most of it ended up on his bib! But we will keep at it and I'm sure he will get the hang of it soon.

In other Sawyer news, he is rolling from back to belly all the time-- I never realized how hard it was for a baby to roll over the shoulder! He is reaching for everything in sight and I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing teeth soon. The next big milestone should be sitting up-- we will keep you posted!

School days, school days.....

Sawyer has officially started nursery school! Monday was his first day and he is fitting right in. His teachers report that he continues to be his happy self throughout the day and is adjusting just fine. On the first day the teacher sat him on a little play mat, across from another little boy, and they just stared at each other and laughed. I don't think Sawyer knew what to think about all of these babies.....yay, he finally has friends!

In other exciting news, he rolled over on Janurary 29th! The rolls are still far and few between, but he is doing a little more each day. I think our next exciting step will be trying some rice cereal! Good times....

Baby Jesus!

Finally, here are some pictures of my lil baby Jesus! Unfortunately I only have pictures from the dress rehearsal, but you get the idea. Sawyer did a great job in his acting debut and just happily kicked his baby feet throughout his scene. Mary and Joseph did a great job and were very sweet with the baby. Granddad was a little freaked out by the 10 year olds holding the baby during the dress rehearsal.....but everything went perfectly!

Please note the cow to the left manager......he made it clear that he was supposed to be a shepherd, and was not happy about the reassignment to the animal world....

Also, please know that Baby Jesus did not wear red during the actual performance.....although he did wear Ralph Lauren.....

Santa Claus is comin.....

Christmas is right around the corner and I think that Sawyer knows that there is excitement in the air. The presents are under the tree at our house....shhh....Santa is bringing Sawyer a Baby Einstein Jumparoo this year! Hopefully Daddy won't have too much trouble with assembly on Christmas Eve!

We are so fortunate to have both families nearby, and look forward to spending time with everyone (except Jessica :( ) over the next few days. Sawyer will be playing the role of Baby Jesus tomorrow night at our Church Christmas Pageant (5:00). The dress reherseal is tonight.....wish us luck! Hopefully Mary and Joseph will be expert baby holders.....

A Perfect Thanksgiving

Sawyer's first Thanksgiving was definitely one to remember. We had around 30 people at the ranch, a perfect setting for a Thanksgiving celebration. Sawyer looks pretty content sitting with his Great-Meme.

I was on call on the Monday before, and I somehow let Two-Mommy convince me to let Sawyer go down 2 days before me! Everyone enjoyed having Soy-Boy for a couple of days....but Mommy sure missed her baby!

Aunt Jessica and Colin (her Colorado man) were here for the holiday and we had so much fun with them both. We celebated Jessica's 25th birthday on the first of December!

ViVi, Poppa, and Uncle Jashon even came to the ranch....it was so great to have all of our families together for this special day!

Its time for another comparison picture to see how Sawyer is growing. Above is a pic taken when he was 1 month old, and below is at 3+ months. I'm not sure that he looks much bigger but he is acting more grown up. I don't think any comparisons will be as stunning as the growth that we saw between 2 weeks and 1 month. But our baby keeps on growing before our very eyes!

The only excitement in the Jones house this week is news that Sawyer will be making his acting debut this December.....as Baby Jesus in the Christmas Pageant at our church! We had an exciting weekend. with Sawyer's first road trip! We headed to San Antonio for Linday's wedding.

ViVi and Poppa came as well and were such a huge help with Sawyer!

Sawyer goes to Church!

Sawyer attended church for the first time today and he was such a sweet boy-- listening to every word that Granddad had to say from the pulpit! He slept on and off for most of the service and just got a little fussy in the last 10 minutes. Overall he was a little angel and Mom and Dad are excited about returning to church on a regular basis. After church we had lunch with Two-Mommy, Granddad, and Uncle Jack at El Fenix. Now baby and Daddy are cheering on the Cowboys-- what a great Sunday!

Race for the cure!

Today we experienced Sawyer's first race....Race for the cure that is. We joined 30,000 other Dallas-ites to show our support for Breast Cancer awareness.

Sawyer was a real handful....he slept through the entire race!

Daddy ran ahead and finished the 5 K in under 30 minutes.....

The rest of us stayed on stroller patrol....and after fighting the crowds, we finished in 1 hour and 3 minutes!! ViVi and I remember running the race 2 years ago and hating all of the stollers....now we are one of them!!

We met the Target dog and couldn't miss the photo-op.....

Last weekend was full of excitement for Sawyer as he attended his first party. As you can probably tell from the picture, it was the Jones family annual Texas-OU party! Soy-boy was all decked out in his Longhorn gear as he helped Daddy cheer for the team. By the time this picture was taken he was becoming a cranky baby-- this was a big day for Sawyer!

Punkin Boy

Well we survived the first week back to work! Sawyer is adjusting to spending the days with his grandparents and I am adjusting to not getting to spend every minute with my boy :(

We had a busy weekend at the wedding of my best friend from high school, Kristin. It was beautiful and Bryan and I had so much fun! Two-Mommy and Granddad came to the wedding and Sawyer spent the night with ViVi and Poppa for the first time! ViVi dressed him in these adorable Pumpkin pajamas. He is going to be all set for his first halloween and we are awaiting the arrival his costume!

Sawyer turned 2 months old yesterday and he has his 2 month doc appointment this week. We can't wait to see how big he is now, but I am dreading his first round of immunization shots.....poor boy! I will take another comparison picture soon so we can see how much he has grown!

Back to Work!

We are proud to announce that the Jones family officially survived Mom's first day back to work!
Only a few tears were shed this morning (by me, not SoyBoy of course).

Sawyer stayed with Two-Mommy today and was so excited about the new schedule that he only slept for a few minutes....I came home to find Two-Mommy still in her pajamas with a happy little bundle of SOY in her arms! It is ViVi's turn tomorrow-- I wonder if she too will get the bright-eyed, energetic Sawyer too......

Needless to say our boy was pooped tonight....it was a fight to keep awake for his nighttime feeding. I can't wait to see how long he sleeps....I'm predicting that we may get a new record!

Uptown Boy

We had an exciting Saturday with a trip to the Uptown Festival-- it was Sawyer's first festival!

We were joined by both sets of Grandparents-- the first time we have all been together since Sawyer's birthday almost 8 weeks ago! We enjoyed the music of a fun Beatle's coverband (two-mommy's favorite) and food and drinks from many uptown hotspots.

It was a fun day and we plan to spend the rest of the weekend resting up for Mommy's return to work on Monday!

Friday night was fun too with a visit from Jackie, one of my best friends from college. Jackie met Sawyer for the first time and she loved him, of course! He was such a good boy while we shopped the day away. Jackie promises to come back soon because she can't stand to be away from SoyBoy for too long!

Baby Buds

We had a fun day yesterday. First Uncle Jack came to visit his favorite nephew. Jack agreed to watch Sawyer while I hopped in the shower. This is what I found when I came back.....I think they are going to get along just fine!

We then went to visit Sawyer's first younger friend. Baby Ali belongs Yan, who is a resident with me. She is just two weeks old and such a beautiful little girl, with a head full of dark hair! Yan and I were pregnant together-- and even on the same team one month. I know that the two of us waddling to the code blues at the hospital must have been quite a site! Now we get to be mommies together....who knows, maybe Sawyer and Ali will have a little love connection in the future....it will be fun to watch and see!

A Few of our Favorite Things....

First and foremost, here is a picture of Sawyer from today. He is wearing his first pair of footed pajamas.....and being the fashionable boy that he is, they are Juicy (compliments of Cousin Samantha!).

Favorite diaper: Pampers Swaddlers, although we haven't tried many others. Sawyer has graduated from newborn to size one!

Favorite Pacifier: Soothies- the green ones that they use in the hospital

Favorite Bottle: Breast Flow, by first years

Favorite Onesies: Kissy Kissy- only brand that fit for first month!

Favorite Position: Over mommy's shoulder

Favorite Lotion: Johnson & Johnson Bedtime Bath- in the purple bottle. They say it calms the baby before bedtime, but it smells so good that I use it all the time!

Favorite Swaddle Blankets: Aden & Anais Swaddle Wrap & The Ultimate Swaddle Blanket

Favorite Activity Time: Swing- puts him to sleep every time. He love the music and the mobile.

Favorite Gadget: WeeWee Blocker. It is exactly what it sounds like-- a must have for little boys!

Favorite Song: Dixie Chicks Lullaby Song. Usually works to calm down SoyBoy in the car

Favorite Video: Happiest Baby on the Block. A must see for all new parents-- teaches you how to elicit the calming reflex and take care of any upset baby. It really works!

Tiny Tanner

When Sawyer was born he had jaundice, a condition that is very common in newborns, especially those who come early. Jaundice occurs because babies don't have enough of the enzyme needed to break down a pigment called bilirubin. Sawyer had to stay in the hospital for an extra day, under special UV lights that help to break down the bilirubin. After bringing him home his levels remained elevated-- so we had to get a tiny tanning bed for home. The poor baby had stay under the lights 24/7 for a couple of days until his levels came down. He had to wear little goggles and lay under the lights except during feedings. Here is a pic of our Soy-Boy in his first tanning bed!

Smart, Stylish, Smiley Sawyer....

I set out this week to buy a new mobile for Soy-Boy.....we want to make sure our baby is getting enough visual stimulation so that his brain will grow to its maximum potential! I started out looking at the decorative mobiles, but then found my way to the educational section. We ended up with a very fancy piece of equipment! It plays classical music-- you can choose which composer you'd like to hear. It has many colors and 4 different types of movement. And, did you know that little babies prefer to look at black and white images-- because they can see the contrast best. He is mesmerized by the mobile!

Here is an adorable picture of Sawyer taken on his 6 week birthday-- he can finally fit into his first Ralph Lauren outfit-- and yes he will be wearing white after labor day because its now or never baby!

I think that we can mark yesterday as Sawyer's first meaningful Smile....elicited by his Grandmother ViVi! Vicki was holding Sawyer and engaged in some serious baby talk and he just started smiling....over and over for about a minute! I have not caught his smile on film quite yet but I'm working on it and I hope that we start to see more of happy boy!

Finally, we are sad to say goodbye to Aunt Jessica today....we have so much fun over the past 10 days! She and Sawyer have gotten to spend a lot of quality time together. I told her that she better come visit again soon if she wants to remain the favorite Aunt! We appreciate all of the yummy meals (I got used to having a chef in my kitchen!) and good times. I love this picture of Jess taken at my parents house....We love you Jessica!

Celebrate Design

Soy-Boy Style

For those of you who haven't seen Sawyer's nursery.....here is a little tour.

We decided to have fun with the crib bedding, mixing aqua (my favorite color), leopard, and touch of lime green.

This great piece allows you to transform any dresser into a temporary changing table. And Two-Mommy found this adorable lamp shade at Anthropologie.

This rocking chair belonged to my Great-Grandmother and has rocked many babies to sleep over the years. We gave it a modern twist by recovering it in the leopard print to match the crib. Our friend Courtni made the beautiful cross with Sawyer's name on it.

This baby rug was made by Bryan's Grandmother for his nursery over 25 years ago, and it is still in mint condition. We couldn't believe how perfectly the colors fit into Sawyer's room!

Here is a peek into Sawyer's closet.....its hard to believe such a little boy could require so much gear!

Fort Worth Fun!

Yesterday Sawyer, Aunt Jess, and I visited Sawyer's Great-Grandparents-- Meme & Granddaddy.

We hardly recognized silver-headed Meme at first, but we really like the change!

Granddaddy came home from work and met us for lunch to spent some quality time with "Sonny Boy," as he calls Sawyer.

It was a fun day in Fort Worth and we will definitely be back to visit soon!

Sawyer is so excited...his favorite Aunt Jessica arrived last night from Beaver Creek, CO. This is Jessica's first time to meet the baby and she can't believe how small he is! She spent the night with us last night and snoozed right through the 3 am feeding :) We look forward to having Aunt Jessi here for the next two weeks!

Growing Like a Weed!

Yesterday was Sawyer's one month checkup and he got a great report. Here are his new stats:

Weight: 9 lbs 2 oz! (up from 7 lbs 11 oz 2 weeks ago)

Length: 21 1/4 inches (one inch longer than at birth)

We have enjoyed comparing Sawyer's size at one month to Bryan's size at the same age....Bryan was 13 lbs and 1.5 inches longer at one month!

It is hard to believe how much our baby has grown in just 2 weeks. Just compare these pictures taken 2 weeks apart....he is really filling out!

Good-Lookin' Grannies

Sawyer is a lucky little boy with two sets of loving Grandparents who just can't get enough of him! We are so happy to live near all of our families-- both of whom got visits from Sawyer on this labor day weekend.

Bryan's parents, ViVi and Poppa, were sweet enough to Sawyer-sit on Saturday (its a dirty job but somebodies got to do it!). Mommy went to a wedding shower and Daddy had a fantasy football draft, so we took baby for a visit to Keller.

We then spent a relaxing Sunday morning with my parents, Two-Mommy and Granddad, in Uptown. We enjoyed watching Sawyer all morning long!

It's hard to believe that these good-lookin' couples are now Grandparents!! We look forward to many good times
to come with Grandbaby Sawyer!!

Swaddle Monster

Did you know that the first 3 months of life for a baby can be thought of as the 4th trimester? Babies love to be swaddled tightly during this time....they feel safe, like they are in the womb.

Swaddling a baby is an art.....its not as easy as it looks! In our house Bryan refers to me as the "swaddle monster," and he is the (self proclaimed) "swaddle master." Sawyer is our little Houdini and always manages to escape my swaddles!

Growing Pains

Sawyer is having his first growth spurt....which is common around 3 weeks and then again at 2-3 months. I can tell he is growing because he hungry much more frequently.... we are back to eating every 3 hours (sometimes every 2). The baby may not find this painful but the mama does....at 3 am!!

Sawyer and I decided to start a blog....a first for both of us! We know that there are many exciting milestones and baby firsts to come and this should be a great way to keep our friends and family posted.

Sawyer Andrew Jones was born August 4, 2008 at 5:32 pm (after an easy labor for Mom!). He weighed 6 lbs 15 oz and was 20 1/4 inches long. He suprised us all when he arrived 2 1/2 weeks early....and already we can't remember life without him!

He seems to be changing constantly and is more alert each day. He can lift his head and turn it from side to side....which he loves to do during tummy time!

We will do our best to update the blog frequently.....although postings may slow down when mom's maternity leave ends!
